Dr. Gary Selby, Professor of Ministerial Formation at Emmanuel Christian Seminary, will present a book-talk Monday, Feb. 3, at SUB 7 at Emmanuel Seminary.
Selby is author of “Pursuing An Earthy Spirituality: C.S. Lewis and International Faith.”
In the book Selby explores C.S. Lewis’ tantalizing suggestion that the deep longings a person often experiences might just be a clue to the nature of God and the purpose for which one was made.
“All of us know what it’s like to feel deep longing. It’s the sweet desire that washes over us when we fall in love, when we imagine taking a trip to another country, when we look forward to a holiday, sometimes when we just gaze at the beauty of a sunrise. But we also know the disappointment of realizing that none of these things ever quite fulfills us. The longing always remains unsatisfied. How do we make sense of this experience?” Selby asks in explaining “Listening to the Longing.”
