FROM STAFF REPORTS
JONESBOROUGH – When playing a team like David Crockett, the one thing that cannot happen is stumbling out of the gates at the tipoff of the contest.
If one doesn’t believe that, just ask Elizabethton Head Coach Lucas Honeycutt who saw his Cyclones fall behind 15-0 on Monday evening at Crockett leading to a 65-44 defeat.
The Cyclones were playing without guard Parker Hughes who had the flu and couldn’t get much offensively to support Nico Ashley’s double figuring outing with 14 points.
Although eight Cyclones registered points including Ashley, the second-highest scorer in the contest was Brayden Phillips with eight points. Nicholas Wilson recorded six points while Seth Carter finished with five points.
Jordan Haynes (4), Jake Roberts (3), Donta Earnest (2), and Dalton Mitchell (2) closed out the Cyclone scoring.
The Pioneers received double-figure scoring from Mack Hensley (17), Donta Hackler (11), and Dawson Wagner in surging to the victory.
