Robert Lee Lewis, 83, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, December 22, 2019. Robert was born in Elizabethton to the late Thomas J. Lewis and Ruth Wright Lewis.
Robert was a loving and loyal husband and father and was a great fisherman. He was a member of Lynn Valley Baptist Church and was retired from Kennametal, where he had worked for 32 years and had a perfect attendance record.
Robert was 2nd in the State as a Golden Glove Boxer and was a blood donor awardee for his many blood donations throughout the years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.
Those left to cherish his many wonderful memories include his wife of 56 years, Judy Lewis, of the home; his son, Shannon Lewis; his grand-dog, Rowdy; one brother, Gordon Lewis; three sisters, Patsy Leonard and husband Bernard, Roma Smith and husband Pat, and Janice Whittaker and husband David; a brother-in-law, Joe Stonecipher and wife Jenny; and three sisters-in-law, Joan Boardman and husband Ted, Diana Edwards and husband Terry and Bobbie Stonecipher.
A service to celebrate the life of Robert Lee Lewis will be conducted at 6 p.m. Thursday, December 26, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Dennis Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 4 until 6 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, December 27, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Teddy Lewis, Ernie Holt, Larry Stout, Eddie Williams, Rick Williams, Chris Whitaker and Todd Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be his fishing buddies, Roger Honeycutt and Melvin Nave. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 12:15 p.m. Friday to go in procession. The family would like to especially thank Marcella Widner, who sat with Robert at night, during his illness. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Lynn Valley Baptist Church Building Fund, 1367 Broad Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
