Hampton ran off and hid in this one forcing nine first period Johnson County turnovers and took a 30-5 opening stanza advantage.
The Bulldogs (6-5 overall) took an 81-63 non-conference decision from the Longhorns on Tuesday night at Van Huss / White gymnasium.
“The kids came out hot, got it going up and down the floor and forced turnovers,” Bulldogs head coach Ned Smith said.
“We are getting better chemistry and moving the ball well. Garrett Vines and Conor Jones had 10 assists between them and that shows we’re moving the ball well, driving and kicking the ball out.”
Hampton took a 44-20 halftime lead behind nine points from senior Jordan Bentley who finished with a game-high 21 points.
Jones had 12 first-half points and finished with 14 for the game.
The ‘Dogs opened a 65-37 lead going into the fourth quarter with Bentley scoring eight in the stanza.
Forward Lucas Phillips scored 17 for Johnson County – hitting four trey’s – and Darren Cunningham added 14 for the Longhorns.

The Lady Longhorns raced out to a 22-4 first-quarter lead behind nine points from Taylor Cox and cruised to a non-conference victory.
Johnson County (6-4 overall) forced seven turnovers in the opening period.
“When we come to play we are long and athletic,” Lady Longhorns head coach Leon Tolley said. “We needed this in the worst way.
“We forced the tempo and we are the kind of team that when someone hits a shot it’s contagious.”
The Longhorns pushed their advantage to 34-12 by halftime with Cox leading the way with 12 points followed by Sadie Stout with nine.
The ‘Horns took a 55-26 lead going into the fourth quarter as Stout put up six third period points and Cox added five more.
Cox led all scorers with 22 points with Stout good for 15 and Emily Miller adding 12.
Hannah Collins scored nine second-half points after being shutout in the first half to lead Hampton.
“I take no delight in coming here and beating Hampton,” Tolley said. “In fact, I told their coach before the game, that I hoped their girls played well.
“I just wanted ours to play up to their capability.”
