The morning was cool and brisk but that couldn’t stop the Cyclone Fever that was flowing around the Elizabethton High School football team as they gathered at 7:45 am on Saturday to have prayer over the team and to send the players, coaches, band, and cheerleaders off with best wishes for the day.
A large crowd gathered in the parking lot as the team carried their gear bags and boarded the bus on a three and a half hour trip to Cookeville to try and bring back the first state football championship in 81 years at the school.
Making a short stop at Farragut High School in Knoxville to stretch their legs and do a walkthrough of their game plan for the day the Cyclones reboarded the buses and headed for the BlueCross Championship game for Class 4-A at Tucker Stadium on the campus of Tennessee Tech.
Little did they know but a crowd that broke the state record for attendance for a single team in the championship game as close to 7,000 or better gathered clad in orange to cheer on their Cyclones.
It was a reunion for many former Cyclone teammates who came from far and near as the Cyclone brotherhood has never died over the years as many met and talked for the first time in many years.
The Cyclones rewarded Cyclone Nation for their support by taking the title over Springfield by a 30-6 score.
Brandon Hyde was at Elizabethton High School as the team departed to capture images as fans gathered and the team boarded their charter buses.
