Shanda Whitehead, 42, of Elizabethton, Tenn., joined her Heavenly family on Saturday, November 16, 2019, from the Vanderbilt University Hospital. Shanda was born in Elizabethton to the late Herman Dallas Miller and Ina Patricia Campbell Miller. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Nellie Irene Carrico; her maternal grandmother, Stella Campbell; her maternal grandfather, Cliney Campbell; several uncles; and a “fur child,” Kitty Pancake.
Shanda was a smart, funny, kind, generous, feisty, stubborn and loving lady and was a dedicated nurse and case manager for nearly two decades at Mountain States Health Alliance and Ballad Health. She attended Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church and enjoyed spending quality time with her loved ones. She loved shopping, cuddling with her kitty cats, watching TV, swimming and going on vacation with her family.
Those left to cherish her many wonderful memories include her loving and devoted husband of 14 years, Andrew Daniel Whitehead; daughter, Kaila Whitehead, of the home; a sister, Nash Bowman and fiancé Jason Acuna, of Elizabethton; a niece, Ivy Acuna, of Elizabethton; a special dear friend, Lori Watson, of Elizabethton; and her precious “fur children,” Copper and Princess Nimi. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Shanda Whitehead will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, at Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 6 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service. The family will not be receiving friends at the residence and requests that their privacy be respected at this time. The family would like to especially thank Shanda’s mother-in-law, Brenda Cooper; her aunts, Shirley Sheffield, Ginger Willis, and Gail McCracken and Gail’s family for all of their love and support as well as all of the prayers from those who loved her. Also, a special thank you to Franklin Woods, Holston Valley, and the nurses and doctors at Vanderbilt University and of course, to her work family at ISHN/Ballad Health. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Carter County Animal Shelter, 135 Sycamore Shoals Drive, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
