CENTRAL – As November reaches its halfway point and the weather begins to drop, schools around the region are beginning to transition from football to basketball.
Two of these teams, the Keenburg Tigers and the Central Comets, continued the early part of their season Thursday night at Central Elementary School.
It was the girls that started things off and after a Lady Keenburg player was taken off the court as a result of a seizure early in the contest, the game had a whole different meaning.
The game was no longer just about winning, it was also about the well being of the players in the game.
In the beginning, it seemed as if the Lady Comets would run away with it taking a 12-0 lead but after some strong inside work by Keenburg, the lead was cut down to six.
While the Lady Tigers were able to surge for some of the second quarter, Central was able to widen the gap to 16-6 at halftime.
From the break, it was all Central as they ran away with the game in the second half thanks to excellent shooting, making the final score 37-13 in favor of the home team.
Juley Neminski led the Lady Comets in the contest with 12 points. She got plenty of help as Makaela Green finished with eight points while Dana Malone collected six points.
Jaden Harmon (4), Maliyah Green (3), Kiley Miller (2), and Maliya Rolling (2) closed out the scoring for Central.
Bambi Nance’s six points paced Keenburg while Tiffany Dugger contributed four points.
Haylee Bowers and Cherish Jackson finished with two and one points respectively.
After a short intermission, it was time for the boy’s game to get underway.
For Central it was an opportunity to sweep the opponents from Keenburg and on the other hand the Tigers were looking to even the score after a loss by the girls.
The game was underway with a bang as the visiting team from Keenburg came out hot jumping out to a 22-3 lead at the quarter break.
Leading up to halftime it seemed to be more of the same, while Central was able to put some points on the board the Tigers were able to score three times the amount of their opponent.
This trend would continue until the halftime intermission where the score was now 37-10
The impeccable play by the Tigers continued in the second half as they shut out Central defensively while increasing their total to 51 in the third quarter.
With the game pretty well over, Keenburg was able to cruise their way to victory, making the final score 58-19 in favor of the visitors.
The determining factor for the Tigers in their lopsided win was their stout defense and the amount of blocks they were able to provide throughout the game along with their unstoppable offense both inside the paint and beyond the arc.
Noah Gill was the top scorer hitting for 18 points in the game for Keenburg. Jesse Painter blistered the cotton for 10 points with Isaiah Linberg tallying nine points.
Devin Duggar and Aiden Gross tickled the cotton for eight points apiece as well. Frank Yoder (3) and Skylar Holly (2) closed out the scoring for Keenburg.
Matt M. had five points for Central while Billy H. and Ron P. added four points each for Central. Gunner P. contributed three points while Matt G. netted two. Matt H. scored one point.
