To the Editor:
My name is Stevie Guinn and I am the pastor of Fish Springs Baptist Church. Several months back the Dollar General Corp. purchased land beside our church to put in a new store. After the land was cleared off for the store there was an area behind our fellowship hall that was left and it was very unsightly.
We have work days where those that can from our congregation gather to do needed repairs to the church or maintenance on the grounds. However, this was just too much for us to deal with on one Saturday per month.
A member of our congregation contacted Sgt. Patterson at the Carter County Sheriff’s Office for assistance from the work crew that does upkeep on county cemeteries. Since it was for the church, Sgt. Patterson said he could do it, but it would take awhile because the work crews are very busy during the summer months.
Recently, Sgt. Royce came to our church with a crew of three or four trustees and cleared the area in question, and it is beginning to look so nice. Our church can now be seen from the highway, which was our goal.
We want to thank Sheriff Dexter Lunceford for the work program. Sgt. Royce was very professional and the trustees were very hardworking and friendly.
Once again, thank you Sheriff Lunceford, Sgt. Royce, and the work crew. May God bless you, as he has our church.
