Watauga Valley

Trunk or Treat will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Watauga Valley Free Will Baptist Fellowship Hall.

Unaka Baptist

The Brotherhood at Unaka Baptist Church will have a country-style breakfast Saturday from 7 to 10 a.m.

The menu will include biscuits, gravy, eggs, two kinds of sausage, bacon, and hash brown potatoes. Other items available on request. The cost is $7

There will also be a country store with crafts, candy and other goodies as well as a bake sale.

Everyone is invited to attend and enjoy the food and fellowship.

Carter Christian

A holiday craft and bake sale will be held Nov. 8 and 9 at Carter Christian Church Fellowship Hall, 1765 Highway 91.

Available will be beautiful handmade crafts, holiday gift ideas, and delicious homemade treats and canned goods.

The event is sponsored by the church’s Ladies Aide Ministry.

Zion Baptist

Zion Baptist Church, 1982 Gap Creek Road, will have its annual Harvest Festival Saturday from 2 until 5 p.m.

There will be trunk or treat, games, inflatables, cakewalk, and a silent auction benefiting the Recovery Soldiers Ministry. Barbecue and hotdogs will also be served.

In the event of rain, all activities will be held indoors with the exception of the inflatables, which would be canceled.

Southside

Christian

Southside Christian Church will host internationally acclaimed Christian entertainer Joseph Young at its annual fall event Sunday, Oct. 27.

Young is an amazingly gifted speaker who uses humor and illusions to present a clear message of salvation. A resident of Big Stone Gap, Va. he has shared his talents throughout the country since 1996.

Young will speaker at morning worship at 11 a.m. and perform his illusions at 7 p.m.

Southside Christian is located at 1610 Southside Road.

First Church

of God

The Elizabethton First Church of God, 609 N. Lynn Ave., will host a concert Saturday at 6 p.m. by the Highlands Fellowship County Venue Worship Band from Abingdon, Va.

Homecoming will be observed Sunday, Oct. 27, at 11 a.m. with special guest, J.J. Cox, the painting preacher, preaching.

Following the morning service, a catered meal will be served.

The pastor, the Rev. Bob Shupe, invites the public to attend.

Union Hill

Phillips and Bank will present special singing Sunday at the evening service at Union Hill Free Will Baptist Church. The service will begin at 6 p.m. and will also feature a message by the Rev. Jacob Phillips.

The public is invited to attend.

The Rev. Roger Haley is pastor.

Union Hill Free Will Baptist is located at 125 Lane Hill Road, Stoney Creek.

Hopwood

Christian

Hopwood Christian Church, Milligan College, will host a display of both old and new quilts inside its auditorium today and Saturday. The exhibition will honor the past and look to the future as donations from the show will be applied to the church building fund.

This is the fourth year that Hopwood has hosted the quilt show.

The show will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days, and will be staffed by church members and quilters ready and able to answer questions about the quilts on display or about the art and history of quilting in general.

Admission is free and open to the public.

Little Doe Free Will

Trunk or Treat will be held at the Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church, Simerly Creek Road, Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

All in the community are invited to participate.

Grace Baptist

Trunk or Treat will be held Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church.

The free family event will feature treats, games, decorated trunks, and inflatables.

The event will take place, rain or shine.

The church is located at 1114 Broad St.

Willow Springs

Willow Springs Baptist Church will have trunk or treat Oct. 31 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The church is located at 544 Willow Springs Rd.

First United

Methodist

“When the Way Up Is Down” is the title of Sunday’s message at First United Methodist Church, Elizabethton. The sermon is based on Luke 18: 9-14, learning where to place our confidence.

Morning worship begins at 9:55 a.m., followed by Sunday School at 11:20 a.m.

The 4:12 Junior High Student Ministries will meet Sunday from 4:12 to 5:25 p.m.; the Senior High Ministries will meet Sunday from 5:30 to 7:15 p.m.

The Coolagers will meet Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Also, Life Lessons will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the church fellowship hall.

First Presbyterian

Dr. Brian C. Wyatt, pastor, will preach Sunday at the 11 a.m. worship service at First Presbyterian Church, Elizabethton. The message is titled “A Test Worth Failing” based on Gen. 22: 1-14.

An Education Hour will be held at 9:45 a.m.

Other opportunities of the week include Meditation at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Thursdays with Jesus Reading Group from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon Thursday; Exercise Class from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; and yoga, Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
