U.S. Forest Service officials at the Cherokee National Forest announced that the Pond Mountain Shooting Range will be closed October 8–11 while work is under way.

Pond Mountain Shooting Range is located in the Watauga Ranger District off US Highway 321 approximately 5 miles east of Hampton near Watauga Lake in Carter County. For public and employee safety the range will be closed while repair and cleanup work takes place. The range will reopen October 12.

The Jacobs Creek Shooting Range in the Watauga Ranger District will be open while Pond Mountain is closed. Jacobs Creek Shooting Range is located on Denton Valley Road off U.S. Hwy. 421 in Sullivan County near South Holston Lake.
