Gary Wayne Grindstaff

Gary Wayne Grindstaff, 68, of Elizabethton, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital after a brief illness.
A native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late Curtis B. and Iva Pearl Robinson Grindstaff.
Gary was a graduate of Unaka High School. He had worked in Sales & Home Services for 50 years. After retirement, he enjoyed working part-time at Universal Storage Solutions.
Gary was a member and deacon at New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church, which was dear to his heart. Gary was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Kathy Whitehead Grindstaff; a son, Johnathan (Marsha) Grindstaff; a daughter, Erica Grindstaff Hodge, of the home, and Mike Hodge; his grandchildren, Faith (Justin) Johnson, Sarah Grindstaff and Elijah Hodge; a great-granddaughter, Zoey Johnson; and his sister, Darlene (Jim) Hawk, and their children, Tim, Todd and Chris, and their families.
A memorial service for Gary Wayne Grindstaff will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 6, at New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Colbaugh and Pastor Nick Colbaugh officiating. The eulogy will be delivered by Darrell Byrd. Friends may visit with the family at the residence anytime. In lieu of flowers, donations for those who wish may be made to the Youth Fund of New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church, 113 Peters Hollow Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908. The family would like to thank the health care professionals for their excellent service. A special “Thank You” to Lance Williams, April Sweeney and Troy Hoover, your kindness will never be forgotten. It was his wish to be cremated and interment will be at a later date.
