KINGSPORT – The Elizabethton Lady Cyclones knew going into Tuesday’s game at Sullivan South that the opportunity to pull even with the Lady Rebels in the conference standings was on the line and after playing solid volleyball as of late were hoping to pull into a dead tie with the Lady ‘Rebs.

But South’s experience from years of playing at a high level prevailed as South took care of the visiting Lady Cyclones with a 3-1 win.

South won the first set convincingly 25-12 before Elizabethton rallied to take the match’s second set 25-22. It was South from there as the Lady Rebels rolled through set three 25-15 and then closed out the match in the fourth and final set with a 25-20 win.

Elizabethton’s Hannah Boster and Morgan Smith led the Lady Cyclones in the match with eight kills apiece with Smith contributing with 16 defensive digs.

Deanna Hull was credited with 22 defensive digs while Whitley Maupin and Kaitlin Bailey came through with seven and six kills respectively while Mattie Davis added five kills.

With the loss, the Lady Cyclones dropped two games back of South for first place in the conference and will take on Sullivan Central in a very pivotal match Thursday night in Blountville as both teams come into the contest with two conference losses each.

The Lady Cyclones stand currently with an overall record of 17-13 on the season.
