Hampton played like a team with something to prove Friday.

One week removed from a heartbreaking loss against Happy Valley, the Bulldogs marched into Friday’s game with a chip on their shoulder and boy did they show it.

Unfortunately, the Cloudland Highlanders found themselves on the receiving end of this high-level play as they took the loss, 42-0.

The game got going slow for the Highlanders as the Bulldog defense stood stout forcing an opening drive three and out.

Following a punt, Hampton would take over and begin their dominant play on offense.

A Connor Jones 13-yard rush would keep the drive alive on a crucial third down. Jones found Isaiah Greenwell for a 34-yard touchdown capping off a nine-play drive.

Down by eight points, Cloudland once again took the field trying to correct the mistakes from their first drive but Hunter Shell and company had nothing going as he would have a pass picked off by Jonah Jones.
Jones marched the Bulldogs back onto the field and once again back to familiar territory finishing another nine-play drive by calling his own number and punching it in from five yards out.
After an unsuccessful two-point conversion, Hampton would lead 14-0.
Trying to bounce back, the Highlanders seemed to finally find an answer with a few successful runs from Connor Birchfield and Hunter Blair but to no avail as the Bulldog defense really came to play Friday night making a huge fourth-down stop to once again take over.
It didn’t take long for Hampton to find the scoreboard as Jones kept his big night going finding Caleb Oaks for seven yards. Midway through the second, the Bulldogs led 20-0.
The next drive saw much of the same as Hampton would force a fumble and recover. After a 51-yard carry from Jones, Oaks would score his second touchdown of the game and a two-point conversion would make it 28-0.
Another forceful three and out from the Bulldogs defense meant another punt from the Highlanders.
Yet again, Hampton made quick work on offense punching in another touchdown with Jones finding Matt Hughes for 25 yards and the score.
Michael Harrison would add an extra point and the Bulldogs had all but sealed it heading into the half.
The second half was a run-fest as both teams hit the ground over and over to eat away the clock as the result was all but final.
In one of the few passes of the second half, Jones would find Gage Chambers for another Bulldog touchdown.
With Hampton up six touchdowns, the game continued on with much of the same as each team hit the ground milking the clock.
After one last Cloudland possession ended in the red zone, Hampton would run out the remainder of the clock and claim the victory.
Next week the Bulldogs will look to keep this momentum trucking as they host the Longhorns of Johnson County.
For Cloudland, they’ll try to pick up the pieces as they host Hancock County.
