John Robert Hughis Sr., 82, of Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2019, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital after an extended illness.
A native of Queens, N.Y., he was a son of the late John and Margaret Kerry Hughis.
John served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He had lived in Elizabethton for 14 years.
John was a cook and carpenter. He loved to build bird houses and he loved his animals. He was of the Catholic Faith.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Joan Kirschenheiter Hughis; his four sons, Johnny, Joey, Jeffrey and Jamie; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate the life of John Hughis will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, August 22, at Memorial Funeral Chapel. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard.
