Denny Hamlin picked up the victory’s sword after conquering the Last Great Colosseum but not before having to battle Matt DiBenedetto down the stretch to win the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series 59th Annual Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway.
The race brought back memories of the old BMS as a large crowd filled the stands and witnessed a classic Bristol NASCAR battle all the way to the end as DiBenedetto gave Hamlin a run for his money but couldn’t catch him at the end after leading heading into the final 20 laps of the race.
Hamlin won the event after also capturing the pole on Friday and said in post-race comments there wasn’t anyone that he hated to beat more than DiBenedetto who will be without a ride at the end of the season but he had to do it for his team.
An emotional DiBenedetto was showered with a huge ovation from the crowd for his work on the track.
