Doe River Snorkeling Excursion – 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. – Escape the summer heat and join Park Ranger Philip Hylen for a snorkeling excursion on the doe river!  This event will begin at 3:00PM starting at the Roan Mountain State Park Visitor Center.  From there, participants will motorcade to the Peg Leg section of the Doe River.  Participation costs $10.00 a person and is limited to 12 individuals.  Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Enjoy a beginner snorkeling lesson followed by an underwater search for the many types of animals that call the Doe River home.  Our discoveries will be recorded for local flora/fauna inventory and will help to determine how our local wildlife/fishery populations are doing! Meet at: Visitor Center Porch.

Summer Concert Series: The Roan Crows – 7:30-8:30 p.m. – Rock out with The Roan Crows as they dish out crowd-pleasing favorites from 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s rock and roll classics.  These guys are loads of fun, don’t miss ‘em! 7:30-8:30 PM at the Park Amphitheater ** Concerts will be relocated to Picnic Shelter 3 in the Campground in case of bad weather. Tuesday Blast On The Mountain, Roan Mountain Community Park (behind the post office), 4-5 p.m., Tai-Chi with Master Carol Ann Mitchell. Low impact stretching to relax the mind and improve flexibility and balance. All ages. $5 donation is appreciated; 4:30-6 p.m., Farmers Market with handcrafted quilts and assorted knitted items, fresh local produce, discount plants, delicious local honey and handmade soap. (This changes weekly as new produce comes into season); 6-7 p.m., Open Jam. Slow guided open jam session on the sound stage led by maestro Rhodyjane Meadows. Attendance is free. Bring your instruments and enjoy the fun; 7-8 p.m., Summer Concert Series. “Nowhere Valley,” a folk trio from rural Watauga County, N.C. This amazing group features Jennifer Gillenwater on the “Dulci-Jo,” a hybrid of a dulcimer and a banjo and a Native Amerian Flute. Togther with Neighbors Sam and Ginger, Nowhere Valley delivers a lively mix of Oldtime, Folk, Pop, Gospel and Country Music sure to intrigue and please audiences everywhere! Good family fun. Bring your lawn chairs, pack a picnic and come have some fun up in the mountains. You may be a stranger when you get here, but you’ll be a part of our family when you leave.

2019 Fall Naturalists’ Rally — Celebrating their 57th Fall Naturalists Rally, the Friends of Roan Mountain will be offering a weekend full of outdoor classes on varying subjects. Take part in hikes, biotic surveys, naturalist lectures, and outdoor adventures that the whole family can enjoy. This event will take place within Roan Mountain State Park on the weekend of Aug. 30 – Sept. 1. Meet at RMSP Conference Center.

National Trail Mix Day Hike – 3:00-4:00 p.m. – Join Ranger Phil Hylen at 3:00PM on Saturday, August 31 to celebrate National Trail Mix Day!  20 participants may register for a guided 0.6 mile hike along our beautiful Cloudland Nature Trail starting at the Roan Mountian State Park Visitor Center.  Before setting out into the wilderness, guests can choose from a wide selection of ingrediants to build their own trail mix for the hike.  Registration is $10 per participant and may be done on this page by clicking the green register button.  Reserve your spot for this adventure today! Hike Surface: Natural, Difficulty: Easy to Moderate (moderation elevation ascents) for all ages.

Trail Needs: Close-toed Hiking Shoes and Water Bottle. Meet at:Visitor Center Porch.

Summer Cocert Series: Roan Mountain Moonshiners – 7:30-8:30 p.m. – These local favorites from right here in Roan Mountain always provide a toe-tappin’ good time with their old-time music and rousing fiddle tunes. 7:30-8:30 PM at the Park Amphitheater. ** Concerts will be relocated to Picnic Shelter 3 in the Campground in case of bad weather.

Tennessee Serves: National Public Lands Day 2019 – 10:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. – Volunteer work day event for participants ages 12 and up.  Please dress for the weather and for wet and muddy conditions.  Wear sturdy shoes/boots, pack lunch/snacks, and drinking water.  Specific project details to be determined, could include light trail maintenance, river clean-up, or invasive species removal.  Please meet at Park Headquarters and be prepared to caravan to work sites throughout the park. Saturday, Oct. 5

Fall Chili Cook-Off — 8 a.m. – noon — Cook up a pot of your secret recipe and compete for prizes, or just come sample the chefs’ creations! Everyone is welcome to kick-off the fall season with food, fun, and fellowship. Register prior to October 5 at the Park Headquarters or Campground Check-in Station. 8 a.m.-noon. Prizes will be awarded to the judges favorite chili, public favorite chili, best decorated chili booth, and overall best use of heat to flavor ratio (no burning off taste-buds!). Meet at: Picnic Shelter #3 in Campground.

Saturday, Oct. 12

2019 Autumn Harvest Festival — noon – 3 p.m. — Step back in time with us at the Miller Farmstead. Our Autumn Harvest Festival brings guests back into the mid 1800s with historical tours of the farm, house, and land surrounding the area. The farmstead will be packed with historical demonstrations, games, traditional music, food, crafts, and more! Come out and support these local artists and re-enactors, or join in the fun by calling us to sign up as a vendor or re-enactor today.

In case of bad weather, the festival will be moved to the Visitor’s Center. If the festival will be moved, we will post it on our park Facebook page and have a sign re-directing guests from the Farmstead entrance. Meet at: Miller Farmstead.

Saturday, Nov. 2

Roan Mountain 10K Road Race — 11 a.m. — Compete with runners from across the state as part of the Tennessee State Parks Running Tour. This certified 6.2 mile course is an all road (no trail!) race starting at 11 a.m. at Picnic Shelter 3. Saturday, Nov. 9

Old Time Yule Celebration — 1-3 p.m. – Celebrate Christmas with Roan Mountain State Park at the historic Miller Farmstead. This 1800s Christmas celebration will feature old-time traditional Christmas music, cookies and refreshments, a campfire, tours of the historic farmstead, and an old-timey letter writing station to Santa.

In case of bad weather, this event may be moved to the Conference Center. If the event will be moved, notice will be given on our Facebook Page and a sign redirecting traffic from the Farmstead entrance will be posted. Meet at: Miller Farmstead.
