It wasn’t too long ago that new parents couldn’t even go and get a head start on picking out nursery colors, clothing, and even toys for the newborn-to-be as they would have to wait until the delivering doctor held their baby up and pronounced the arrival of a boy or girl into the world.

As the technology evolved, an ultrasound now can provide pictures of the child in the mother’s womb allowing the technician to detect whether the new bundle of joy is a boy or girl.

Many new parents now are taking the announcement of the gender of their child to a whole new level as more and more creative ideas are coming to light making the announcement even more suspensive and a time of celebration as family and friends gather for the big reveal.

According to the website mom365.com, here are the top 11 gender reveals for the newborn:

-Colored cake gender reveal.  A great idea where one can take a white cake mix and add either blue or pink food coloring to identify the gender.

-The envelope, please. If the expecting couple can handle the suspense, when the gender is determined, have the ultrasound technician or OB write down the gender and seal it in an envelope. At the party open the envelope or have an honored guest open the envelope and make the gender reveal.

-Decorate your bump. With a blue or pink ribbon or bow, lift your shirt at the reveal party to show the gender. If one is shy, then have the father pick the bow or ribbon up and place it on the baby bump.

-Balloon launch. The launch can be done one of two ways. The mother and father can hold a balloon each (one pink and one blue) and one can keep the gender balloon while the other is released or balloons can also be released from a box to identify the gender.

-Baseball gender reveal. Hit a baseball filled with the color of the gender. To avoid missing the ball, the ball can be placed on a tee.

-Confetti it up. Buy balloons and fill with confetti and hand to each attendee at the party with a pin. Do a countdown and everyone pops the balloons together to reveal the gender via confetti.

-Box gender reveal. Buy a onesie or outfit and wrap it up. At the party, unwrap the box to reveal what the little one will be.

-Pinata gender reveal. Fill a pinata with either pink or blue candy and once the pinata is broken open, the color of the candy will let everyone know the gender.

-X marks the spot. Fill a small chest or box with something in blue or pink. Draw up a map and have family and friends find the chest to reveal the baby’s gender.

-Older sibling gender reveal. If there is a big brother or big sister, have a gender reveal shirt made and have the child keep the shirt covered with a jacket until it’s time to make the reveal.

-Pin the bow (or tie) on the ultrasound. Blow up the ultrasound picture and put it on the wall. Make a cutout of a pink bow or a blue bowtie and attach a piece of scotch tape to the back. When it’s time to make the reveal, attach the pink bow to the head for a girl or the bowtie around the baby’s neck for a boy.

These are just a few of the reveal ideas as there can be a variety found on social media from the unusual one of using a balloon and letting an alligator pop the balloon to filling several trucks exhausts with colored powder, putting all the vehicles in a circle and starting the engine to blow the powder out.

There are those that also blow something up with colored powder rising in the air at the explosion.

However, one decides to make the revelation of the gender of a baby, the main thing is not whether it’s a boy or girl, but that the mother and child come through the delivery safely and both are healthy.
