Using four pitchers – each pitching effectively – the Stateline traveling team blanked Watauga Post 49 by a 4-0 tally on Friday evening at T.A. Dugger in American Legion 15U baseball action.
“We try to throw everybody,” Stateline manager ‘Granny’ Blevins said. “That’s the only way to do it.
“We have got two games to go on Saturday and another on Sunday and back here Monday. We play travel ball and we are in a tournament this weekend.”
Lefthander Gunnar Meyer pitched the first two frames in this one giving up no runs on two hits while striking out three as Stateline built a 1-0 lead.
Chandler Myers and Meyer each walked and with one out Ashton Leonard struck an RBI single to give Stateline the early lead.
Brady Roberts pitched a scoreless third frame and Stateline added three runs in the bottom of the inning.
A walk and an infield error put runners on first and second and a single by Isaac Blevins loaded the bases.
Carter Keesee’s bases-loaded walk forced home a run and Cannon Myers delivered a two-run base knock for a 4-0 Stateline lead.
Post 49 nearly chased Meyer in the second inning after a double from pitcher Pedro Colunga and an infield single from Andrew Stevens put runners at the corners for Watauga.
But Meyer struck out the next three hitters – Parker Henry, Carter Davison and Colby Solomon – to end the threat.
Jack Farris came on for Colunga in the fourth and was aided by a double play that ended the contest.
Leonard came in to pitch in the top of the fourth and gave up a single to Henry, but that was the last hit Post 49 would get in this contest.
After taking a break, the teams resumed in a scrimmage that Stateline won by a 9-4 tally.
In that one, Watauga fared better at the plate with Stevens collecting an RBI hit while Davison and Solomon each forced runs in with bases loaded walks.
