Watauga Post 49 was working on a shutout until an error in the fourth frame proved costly, but not nearly enough for the Warriors to think of a comeback. Andrew Stevens pitched three, two-hit shutout innings as Post 49 built a 17-0 lead and Watauga scored a 17-1 American Legion 15U win at T.A. Dugger on Tuesday.

“I was very pleased with the pitching tonight,” Post 49 manager Cory Edmundson said. “Especially with a big lead, I want them to throw strikes. This is our first win, but we have been competing well.

“The main thing is getting everyone here, but we are coming into our own and I think we’ll get better as the season goes on.”

Post 49 scored six runs in the top of the first with Stevens, Connor Edmundson and Wes Shankle opening with singles off Warriors starter Dylan Woodby and Carson Streseman delivering an RBI walk.

Catcher Pedro Colunga then doubled home two more runs with Bryce Soloman and Alex Hartley each coming through with RBI hits.

Stevens struck out five and walked one and the only hits he surrendered was to Woodby in the first and Jason Ward in the second.

Both hits proved harmless as the 49ers defense played well with just one error while the Warriors committed seven to sabotage a pretty decent pitching effort from Woodby.

Most of the miscues came in the top of the third when Post 49 put up seven runs with the help of four Warrior errors, which increased the Watauga lead from 8-0 to 15-0.

In the second frame, Streseman had a run-scoring double and he would later crush an inside the park two-run homer in the fourth.

In the seven-run third the only RBI hit came from Teddy Orton with six runs coming on errors or an RBI ground out from Bryce Soloman.

The Warriors averted a shutout in the last of the fourth against Post 49 relief pitcher Soloman.

With one out catcher Nakota Graham reached on an infield error, stole second and third and when Cayden Campbell walked, he scored on the back end of a double steal.
