Deputies from the Carter and Sullivan County Sheriff’s Offices took 20 people with outstanding warrants into custody during a joint operation Tuesday.
The wanted persons were arrested on a variety of charges, from drug offenses to failures to appear in court. Deputies conducting the round up focused on wanted persons in Sullivan County. According to Carter County Sheriff Dexter Lunceford, serving misdemeanor warrants helps to reduce property crime.
“These joint operations are important to driving down crime in the region,” Lunceford said. “We’ve seen a significant decrease in crime as our agency has prioritized arrest warrants, and we’re glad to be working with our neighboring agencies to recreate that success.”
In total, deputies served 13 warrants from Carter County, six from Sullivan County and one from Hawkins County.
