Maxine Bowling Birchfield

Maxine Bowling Birchfield, 89, of Elizabethton, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2019, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home. A native of Harlan, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Edward and Viola Douglas Bowling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy L. Birchfield; a sister, Margaret Catolla; brothers, James Bowling and Henry Bowling; and a grandson, Blair Birchfield.
Maxine was a faithful member of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church where she joined on September 6, 1970. She was a former Sunday school teacher, nursery worker and enjoyed singing in the choir. Maxine loved gardening, cooking, canning, traveling, sightseeing and fishing; but her ultimate joy came in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memories include two daughters, Barbara Estep (Glen) of Johnson City and Brenda Rojas (John) of Corpus Christi, Texas; three sons, Billy L. Birchfield Jr. of Elizabethton; Kenneth Birchfield (Pam) of Bristol, Va., and Dave Birchfield of Elizabethton; eight grandchildren, Patty Birchfield, Bobby Birchfield, Crystal Witt (CJ), Billy Birchfield (Miranda), Chasity O’Quinn (Andy), Paula Rojas, Michael Rojas (Matilda) and John Rojas (Christina); 10 great-grandchildren, Kimberly, Veronica, Jack, Grant, Piper, Zoey, Aubree, Michael, Marcus and Alex; and two great-great-grandchildren, Andrew and Audrey.
A service to honor the life of Maxine Bowling Birchfield will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Mark Fowler and Pastor Bobby Stout officiating. The family will receive friends in the chapel from 10 until 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow the funeral at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Michael Rojas, Billy Birchfield, CJ Witt, Alex Rojas, Michael Rojas Jr. and Andy O’Quinn.
