Helen Mae Milan Babb, 76, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 26, 2019, from Hillview Nursing Home, Elizabethton. Helen was born in Rising Sun, Md., and was a daughter of the late Lester F. and Elsie Turner Milan. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Horace L. Babb Sr.; a step-brother, Elmer R. “Sonny” Huff; and a step-sister, Geraldine Huff.
Helen was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She was a member of Millers Grove Free Will Baptist Church and retired from Hillview Nursing Home after 16 years of service. She enjoyed puzzles, word searches, knitting, traveling and spending time with her family and praising the Lord. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Freddy Babb, of the home, and Horace Babb Jr. of Elizabethton; a daughter, Dennesa Babb Birchfield and her husband Steve of Elizabethton; three brothers, Buddy Milan and his wife Carolyn of Elizabethton, Frank Milan and his wife Linda of Elizabethton, and Dr. Jimmy Milan, DDS, of Knoxville, Tenn.; four sisters, Ellen Wood and her husband Buddy of Boone, N.C., Tony Milan Hollar of Boone, N.C., Sue Nave Milan of Elizabethton, and Virginia Huff Bishop of Goose Creek, S.C..; four grandchildren, Britton Babb, Austin Babb, Maleah Hampton and Franklin Birchfield; three great-grandchildren, Kamonie Babb, Katelyn Renee Whitaker and Miah Collins; and her beloved Dachshund, Oscar.
A service to celebrate the life of Helen Babb will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, in the chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Mark Street, minister, officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 30, in the Babb Cemetery, 125 Babb Road, Elizabethton, Tenn. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:50 p.m. Active pallbearers will be Travis Nave, Bo Nave Jr., Britton Babb, Austin Babb, Anthony Ford and Richard Cannon. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Babb, Ron Babb, Mike Wood and Tim Cannon. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hillview Nursing Home for the loving care shown to Helen.
