A call to the Carter County Sheriff’s Department in reference to a shoplifting at the Dollar General Store in Roan Mountain led to an arrest for shoplifting and drug-related charges.

According to the police report, a deputy responded to a shoplifting call from the Dollar General Store in Roan Mountain. While en route to the call, the deputy was dispatched that the suspect, Jaqueshia M. Williams, had left the store in a gold van headed toward Hampton. The deputy said to be on the lookout for the suspect’s vehicle. After viewing the almost hour-long video, authorities said they had stopped the van and arrested Williams for separate charges.

After arriving at the traffic stop and informing Williams about the prior shoplifting call and while reading her Miranda Rights, Williams reportedly became irate and said: “I am not going to listen to you.”

A female deputy arrived at the scene of the traffic stop and agreed to look at the woman in custody for positive identification.

Upon positive identification, Williams reportedly began to verbally assault the female deputy and threatened her with bodily harm several times, saying she was going to “beat her a** for lying.”

After receiving consent to search Williams’s purse the officers found five oval-shaped pills, a glass pipe, six straws, a scale and a little blue bag. The report said officials found no items believed to had been taken from the Roan Mountain Dollar General Store.

Officials have charged Williams with retaliation for past action, shoplifting, Schedule IV drug violations and unlawful drug paraphernalia.
