Gordon Allen St. John

Gordon Allen St. John passed away peacefully on May 1, 2019 in Jacksonville, Fla. He was 72.
Gordon was born in Elizabethton, Tenn., in 1947 to William Berry St. John and Iris Nadyne Purcell. The youngest of two boys, Gordon spent his childhood on his family’s farm, St. John’s Dairy.
In his teen years, Gordon developed a lifelong love of stockcar racing, spending his nights and weekends working in the pit crew for up-and-coming racer, Herman Beam. Gordon joined the U.S. Army in 1967 and was honorably discharged in 1972. He served in Vietnam before returning to Tennessee to help his father maintain the family farm. From there, he moved to Americus, Ga., where he met his wife, Gail. They were married for 41 years and in that time shared two children, Heather and Candice, 12 homes in seven cities, and countless wonderful memories.
Gordon leaves behind his wife, Gail Underwood St. John, and two children, Heather Young and Candice Upchurch, their spouses, and his brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Rosa St. John. He will be deeply missed by his entire family, especially his five grandchildren, Noah, Isabella, Henry, Hollie and Olivia.
Services for Gordon will be held on Friday, May 17, at 2 p.m. at Beaches Chapel by Hardage-Giddens, 1701 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach, Fla.
