BLUFF CITY— After a massive win for the Lady Cyclones Monday night, the team traveled back to Sullivan East Tuesday in another win or go home matchup against the Sullivan South Lady Rebels.
In what started as a defensive battle, the Lady Cyclones were able to get the bats rolling to advance to the district semifinal which took place later the same evening.
In the first frame of the ball game, it seemed as if Elizabethton would jump ahead early after two base hits in the inning.
However, the runners were left stranded heading into the bottom half of the inning.
The Lady Cyclones were able to stand their ground in the home half only allowing one hit stranding the lone South baserunner.
The second inning came and went fairly quickly as both teams failed to reach base. Still scoreless, this game had the potential to be a defensive showdown.
Elizabethton was able to get the bats rolling in the third after Maddie O’Quinn came across to score as a result of a Kaylen Shell RBI single to left field.
To keep the momentum going, both senior Kira Dillard and Shell were able to score after an infield error by the Lady Rebels on a ball off the bat of Madisun Pritchard.
On the defensive side, the Lady Cyclones were able to shut down South allowing only one base runner making it a 3-0 ball game in favor of Elizabethton after three complete.
The Lady Cyclones were able to set it off again in the fourth after Kallista Deprimo blasted a pitch to deep right-center field to give Elizabethton a four-run lead.
In the home half, the Lady Rebels were able to scratch into the lead after Katie Conkin brought one runner across with an infield single making it a 4-1 contest.
After two phenomenal innings, the Lady Cyclones weren’t able to make anything happen in the fifth leaving one runner stranded. The bottom half of the inning was almost identical with South not obtaining a hit.
Elizabethton was able to pick it back up in the sixth inning gaining one run on a tough call by the umpires in regards to a tag play between second and third.
As it had happened all game, the Lady Rebels were once again not able to get the bats to work being retired after four batters in the bottom of the stanza.
With one more inning to play the Lady Cyclones came close but weren’t able to add to their lead. South was able to score one run after a Bradley Warner single in the bottom of the seventh, but that was all they could muster as Elizabethton shut them down ending the game with a 5-2 score.
The Lady Cyclones advanced to the District 1-AA semifinal which took place immediately after the South game’s completion.
