Robert Dwight Hughes, 73, of Elizabethton, passed away after an extended illness on Monday, April 22, 2019. He was the son of the late John and Verna Harrell Hughes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Robert Hughes; three brothers, John Wesley Hughes, Loy Hughes and Mack Hughes; and a sister, Pauline Hill.
Mr. Hughes was a craftsman who could do anything. He loved his children, grandchildren and his dog. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, being outdoors and socializing with people.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Laura Morris of Elizabethton; a son, James Dwight Hughes (Karen) of Roan Mountain; five grandchildren, Brandon Campbell, Jared Campbell, Jacob Morris, Autumn Hughes and Summer Hughes; and the mother of his children and lifelong friend, Lois Hughes. He is also survived by two great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Hughes will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Stevie Guinn officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, April 26, in the Hughes Family Cemetery. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. to ride in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be James Hughes, Brandon Campbell, Jared Campbell, Jacob Morris, Kalvin Spence and Randal Hughes. Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Morris, Jeff Nelson, David Gentry and Don Miller. The family would like to give a special thanks to Hillview Nursing Home and Amedysis Hospice for all the care and support they gave.
