Head-on collision on Mary Patton Highway results in fatality

- Star Photo/Amber Wadovick Police and firefighters responded to a crash on Mary Patton Highway at around 9 in the morning Tuesday. The driver of the red minivan survived with injuries, while the driver of the silver Sudan was declared dead at the scene. Criminal charges are pending.
A head-on collision between two vehicles Tuesday morning resulted in a fatality, Tennessee Highway Patrol reports.
The report says a red minivan was traveling south on Mary Patton Highway, while a silver Sedan was traveling the opposite direction. Authorities say the minivan crossed the center line in a right hand curve. The sedan swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid a collision, but the two vehicles made head-on contact.
Authorities said the driver of the silver Sedan, 69-year-old Cathy Deal, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 81-year-old driver of the minivan experienced injuries.
Authorities say criminal charges are currently pending. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
