Carter County man arrested for killing four dogs, theft

The Carter County Sheriff’s Office recently reported an arrest on the Teaberry Road dog dumping case.

According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, deputies arrested 26-year-old Garrett Birchfield Tuesday afternoon for reportedly stealing a woman’s guns and killing her dogs.

Investigators reported Birchfield stole the victim’s dogs and a firearm, shot the dogs and then disposed of them on Teaberry Road. Investigators said he then came back to the victim’s home, posing as an investigator, and stole three more firearms.

Current criminal charges include four counts of intentionally killing an animal, theft over $1,000, aggravated burglary, criminal impersonation and fabricating evidence.

Birchfield currently resides in the Carter County Detention Center on a total bond of $49,000.
