MILLIGAN COLLEGE, WALESKA, Ga. – Erin Forgety threw a shutout in game one before Kassi Butcher and Kendyl McCollister combined for a shutout in game two to lead Milligan College’s softball team to wins of 3-0 and 4-0 at Reinhardt University Wednesday afternoon on the road.

Forgety’s shutout was the third of her freshman season and second in as many outings. She struck out six with no walks while allowing only six hits to improve to 9-7. Butcher (8-6) and McCollister’s combined shutout was the second of their season, and McCollister picked up her fourth save. Milligan improved to 17-15 (15-9 AAC). The pair of shutouts marked the Buffaloes’ seventh blanking of the season and third blanking in the last four games.

Forgety and Butcher both benefitted from efficient starts. Forgety retired the first seven; Butcher retired the first eight. In Forgety’s case, the Buffs already had the lead, scoring on a two-out double by Kirstan Beaver in the top of the third inning. Forgety helped herself out a little, too, in the inning by bunting Karsten Miller, the eventual go-ahead run, to second.

Milligan tripled the lead in the seventh inning on a two-RBI double by Miller. It highlighted an inning in which the first two Buffaloes to bat were out.

In Butcher’s case, Milligan gave the senior the lead only shortly after she allowed her first base runner. Morgan Overholser drove in the eventual winning run with an RBI bunt in the top of the fourth inning, and an inning later, Beaver drove in two more on another double. Erica Roller rounded out the scoring with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.

Butcher’s winning line included 5.1 shutout innings, four hits and no walks. McCollister went the last 1.2 innings with three hits, no runs, no walks and one strikeout. Her lone strikeout ended the game in a bases-loaded situation which saw the tying run at the plate.

Beaver led the Buffs offensively in game two with a 2-for-4 effort.

Up next, Milligan returns home for senior day, the final home game of the regular season, Saturday at 1 p.m. against Brenau University. The Buffs will then have two doubleheaders left on the schedule prior to the AAC tournament, both on the road.
