After posting an 8-6 win in game one, the Milligan College baseball team won its most lopsided game of the season with a 20-5 victory over Shawnee State University to complete a nonconference doubleheader sweep Wednesday night on Anglin Field.

William Oliver led the Buffs on the day with four hits, including a 3-for-3 effort in a close game one. Eleven Buffs registered at least one hit in game two, including Isaac Barkley who was 1-for-4 with four RBI’s.

Milligan (15-19, 6-12 Appalachian Athletic Conference) fell behind in game one, 2-0 after two innings and 5-1 midway through the fourth. With four runs in the bottom of the fourth and another three runs in the sixth, the Buffaloes rallied big to complete the come-from-behind victory.

Kirby Smith drove in the first two runs of Milligan’s fourth on an RBI single up the middle. Oliver followed with a two-RBI single moments later which brought the game to a tie at 5-5. After Shawnee State (14-20 overall) went back into the lead in the top of the sixth, Milligan swung the lead back with a trio of run-scoring at-bats in the bottom half.

Smith again doubled a run in, scoring Camron Harper to tie the game. Oliver tripled Bailey Psathas, Smith’s pinch runner, home to give Milligan the lead. Then Snaider Torrealba gave the Buffs an insurance run with a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Oliver and making it 8-6.

In the nightcap, Shawnee State once again went out front first, but it was nearly all Milligan from that point forward. The Buffaloes tied the game with a run in the first, then went into a big lead with five runs in the second, seven runs in the third, five runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth.

Juan Vasquez was 1-for-3 with a run-scoring triple to right field in the third inning; Barkley was 1-for-4 with a bases-loaded triple down the right field line in the fourth.

Up next, Milligan faces No. 24 Bryan College in a three-game AAC series. Teams will play a single game Thursday at 7 p.m. and a doubleheader Friday at 12 p.m. After that, the Buffaloes head to another nationally-ranked opponent, No. 7 University of the Cumberlands, on Tuesday, April 16.
