John “Mike” Mottern

John “Mike” Mottern, 56, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 5, 2019, from Fort Sanders Regional Hospital in Knoxville. Mike was born in Elizabethton, Tenn., to Beverly Bradley Hopson, of Elizabethton, and the late Paul Mottern. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his best friend, Ronnie Small.
Mike worked for FLSmidth in Johnson City as head of maintenance and was a member of Willow Springs Baptist Church. He loved all of his pets, riding motorcycles, listening to music and playing the guitar. Mike was also an avid collector and he rebuilt and restored motorcycles. When Mike was riding his motorcycle across the country, he would leave a Bible at each rest stop. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Beverly Hopson of Elizabethton; his loving and devoted daughter, Brandi Mottern and husband Micah Collie of Johnson City; four grandchildren, Brennedy, Nehemiah, Charlie and Nathaniel; his step-mother, Elaine Mottern of Elizabethton; a brother, Fred Mottern of Elizabethton; his special cousins, Jerri Barnes and Carl Turner, both of Elizabethton; his ex-wife and the love of his life, Lynn Irick; a special mention to his ex-wife, Mitzi Absher; an aunt, Sharon Barnes of Elizabethton; and his special friends, Sam Stout, David Babb and David Shell.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of John “Mike” Mottern will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 13, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Dr. Kenneth Jordan officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service.
