Unaka rocks Hancock behind Ramsey, Shearl

The Rangers were relentless at the plate Friday evening in Stoney Creek.

Unaka’s John Ramsey accounted for five RBIs as he blasted a home run during the Rangers’ 17-2 win over Hancock County.

Ramsey would finish going 3-of-3 with two doubles. Ramsey, however, wasn’t the only Ranger swinging a heavy bat. Teammate Daniel Shearl collected four RBIs as he went 3-of-3 with a pair of doubles of his own.

On the mound, Unaka’s Bryson Street picked up the win as he retired seven batters.

Unaka’s Davy Ensor had a two-run, inside-the-park home run while Devin Ramsey, Davy Ensor, Nick Nunley, and Daniel Ensor all had to two hits each. Unaka’s Reid Taylor also had a triple during the contest.

Unaka hosted Cloudland Monday night.

Hampton takes down Providence, 17-7

The Hampton Bulldogs picked up their first win of the season Friday as they topped Providence 17-7 at Scotty Bunton Field.

On the mound, Hampton freshman Caleb Royston picked up his first win as he worked six innings. Royston finished with seven strikeouts against one walk.

Hampton’s Parker Henry (2-of-4, 3 runs, 2 RBIs, stolen base), Caleb Oaks (2-of-4, 1 run, 2 RBIs, 2 stolen bases), Elijah Smith (2-of-4, 2 stolen bases), and Weston Street (2 RBIs) all had good outings at the plate for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs travelled the North Greene Monday evening and will host the Huskies to Scotty Bunton Field today.

Local teams finish out play in Eastman

Unaka, Cloudland and Happy Valley finished things up at the  Eastman Tournament in Kingsport over the weekend.

On Friday, Cloudland topped Happy Valley 5-1, before Cloudland went onto to lose to Knox Powell, the tournament’s eventual champion, 12-0. Happy Valley also loss 10-0 to Lebanon on Friday.

The Unaka Lady Rangers went 1-1 on Friday as they topped Volunteer 9-4 before losing to Anderson County 8-1. In their win over Volunteer, the game was tied 4-4 up until the fourth quarter when the Lady Ranger posted five runs in the frame en route to a victory. For Unaka, Erika Potter went 2-of-3 with two RBIs. Both Alana Parsons and Tayla Potter each had a double while Lillie Kiser finished with a triple. Kiser also had two RBIs.

Unaka’s Kailey Wilson tossed five innings while she picked up the win. Wilson finished with eight hits and four runs against her. Wilson struck out one batter.

Saturday, Happy Valley suffered two losses falling to David Crockett and Greeneville, 6-0 and 6-1, respectively. Cloudland would lose twice on Saturday, losing to Lebanon, 9-0, and Greeneville, 8-0.

Unaka picked up one win on Saturday over White House-Heritage, 2-1, after losing to Grainger 14-1. In their win over Heritage, Unaka’s Sadie Shoun, after stealing second, came home on a double by Madison Pierce to give the Lady Rangers the go-ahead run. Pierce also scored Shoun in the first inning with a double.
