The Walters State Community College softball team has won 12 of its last 16 games and just ended a six-game win streak after losing to Volunteer State Community College, 6-4, Saturday.

The Lady Senators finished their four-game series with Volunteer going 3-1.

Former Elizabethton Lady Cyclones Lauren Brickey has now played 21 games during her first season with Walters State. Over 21 games, Brickey has recorded three home runs and 13 RBIs while recording a .300 batting average.

Brickey’s fellow Lady Senator and former Happy Valley Lady Warriors, Emily Whitaker, has recorded 17 RBIs this season off of 19 hits. Whitaker has had one home run in 2019.

Jones, McClain compete in NCCAA Division II National Championships

The Johnson University Royals finished out their season earlier this month.

The Royals competed in the NCCAA Division II National Championships after winning the Mid-East Championship.

The Royals went 2-1 at the national level en route to a third-place finish.

Former Hampton Bulldogs Coby Jones and Cody McClain saw minutes at the national level.

During the Royals first-round win over Trinity Baptist College, 76-60, Jones recorded 13 points for the Royals while former Sullivan East High School standout, Gavin Grubb, scored 22 points to lead Johnson University.

Johnson University fell, 75-51, to Grace Christian College during its second day at the tournament.

Playing for third place, the Royals defeated Maranatha Baptist University, 101-86. In that win, the Royals were led by Taylor Gilpin. Gilpin, the 2019 Pete Maravich Memorial Award recipient, scored a game-high 26 points.

Jones finished the game with 11 points while McClain had nine.

Marosite twins finish up second season at Carson-Newman

For the second year in a row, the Carson Newman Lady Eagles made it to an NCAA tournament.

The Lady Eagles’ season, however, came to an end during their first game of the NCAA DII Southeast Regional, falling, 82-79, to Lander in Anderson, South Carolina.

The loss marked the end of former Lady Cyclones Kayla Marosites’ junior season at Carson Newman after coming to the school her sophomore year.

Marosites has a total of 846 career points after scoring 423 points in 2018-19.

Kayla is joined at C-N by her sister, Kelsi Marosites. Kelsi is also finishing up her junior year at Carson-Newman and has scored 352 points for the Lady Eagles during her two seasons at C-N.

Kayla has also been a major presence on the boards for the Carson-Newman, pulling down 702 rebounds over two seasons of work.
