On Wednesday, Carter County Sheriff’s Deputy Cody Farley responded to a carjacking call at the Citgo off Highway 91 in Stoney Creek.
Upon arrival, Farley spoke with D.J. Holsclaw. Holsclaw informed Farley that 30 minutes prior to Farley’s arrival that his vehicle, a silver Acura, was allegedly stolen from him at gunpoint by 28-year-old Cody Madden. It seems the alleged carjacking incident didn’t actually happen at the Citgo. Holsclaw had walked to the gas station to call 911 after being driven home by a friend, alleging that his phone was in the stolen Acura.
Around 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning, CCSO Deputy Justin Johnson was in his patrol car at Hunter First Baptist when he a saw a vehicle that matched the description of the allegedly stolen silver Acura. Johnson had also been notified that a runaway juvenile might also be in the Acura.
After running the vehicle’s license plate and learning that the plate was not on file, Johnson pulled the Acura over at the Unaka Village Apartments.
Johnson made contact with the driver, Madden, who had two passengers with him, a Jamie Ashley and a female juvenile.
The female juvenile ended up having a warrant out of Washington County and was turned over to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Farley, who had spoken with the alleged carjacking victim, was notified that the Acura had been found. Farley showed up at the scene and spoke with Madden.
Madden told Farley that he owned the Acura after allegedly purchasing the vehicle from Holsclaw for $2,700. During a search of the Acura, deputies found a small vile containing a crystalline residue which appeared to be methamphetamine.
The Acura’s VIN number was searched and the vehicle came back as registered to Chad Potter. Earlier, as Farley spoke with Holsclaw, Holsclaw had said he had traded a black Honda for the Acura with Potter. The Acura was towed.
Madden was cited and summoned for possession of a Schedule II substance.
