Xavarian, NY 10

In a game that wasn’t decided until the final at-bat, the Elizabethton Lady Cyclones built a 7-2 lead after two innings before having to fight tooth and nail over the last five innings to secure an 11-10 win over Xavarian, NY.

Elizabethton scored a run in the first inning on an error before putting together a solid second inning scoring six runs on base hits from Kira Dillard, Haley Fair, Maggie Johnson, Hannah Edwards, and Marley Wagner with each Lady Cyclone collecting RBI’s in the frame.

The Lady Cyclones tacked on four more runs when Johnson flexed her muscles to take a pitch yard for a grand slam to give the Lady Cyclones a commanding 11-2 lead.

However, Xavarian wasn’t ready to lay down as the New York team roared back in the bottom of the third inning scoring eight runs of their own to whittle the Lady Cyclone lead down to 11-10.

The rest of the game was a pitching and defensive duel between the teams as neither team could muster any more runs the rest of the way as the Lady Cyclones held strong for the win.

Freshman pitcher Madisun Pritchard started the game and pitched two and two-thirds of an inning allowing ten runs on four hits, walking seven and striking out four Xavarian batters.

Senior Hannah Edwards came on in relief to earn the win going four and one-third of an inning holding Xavarian to no runs on three hits. Edwards walked three and struck out two in her time from the circle.

Johnson was big from the plate going 3-of-4 including the grand slam. Maddie O’Quinn, Dillard, Autumn Hensley, and Edwards collected two hits apiece in the contest.

Haley Fair roped a double with Wagner, Pritchard, and Kallista Deprimo adding a hit each. The Lady Cyclones finished with 15 hits in the contest.
