Sadie M. Smith

Sadie M. Smith, 97, went to be with the Lord on February 24, 2019, at her home in the Fish Springs Community.
Sadie was a retired veteran of the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps, United States Army, and the United States Army Reserve, serving from 1942 until retirement in 1975. She held positions including mechanic/wheeled driver, nurse, clerk typist and many more. She also worked at Bemberg Corporation, General Electric Corporation in New York and attended Dourghes Technical School in Dallas, Texas.
After retirement, she became a farmer and caregiver to her elderly parents. She loved to fish, care for her animals and in later years enjoyed watching TBN, and talking to friends and family on the telephone.
She was preceded in passing by her parents, Raud and Nellie Smith, and by four sisters and one niece.
She is survived by one sister, June McEwen of Johnson City; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and her loyal dachshund Daisy, who was her constant companion.
Sadie was cared for by her great-niece, Emily Fletcher, and great-nephew, Christopher Schuettler and his family.
An indoor military service by the Carter County Honor Guard will be held at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Elizabethton, Tenn., at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 17.
