Jr. Lady Highlander scoot past Little Milligan

After thumping Little Milligan in the first half, the Cloudland Jr. Lady Highlanders rolled to a 34-13 over the Lady Buffs Monday.
The win earned the Jr. Lady Highlanders a spot at the championship game against Hampton which was played Tuesday evening. For the results of that game, pick up Thursday’s Elizabethton Star.
Cloudland got a quick start Monday as the Lady Highlanders out worked Little Milligan 13-0 in the first frame. Cloudland’s Katie Baldwin popped a 3-pointer while teammates Ella Benfield, Kendall Birchfield, Saharra McKinney, Ryan Turbyfill, and Izabella Christman all scored two points each in the quarter.
The Jr. Lady Highlanders scoring slowed down in the second frame. Four points from Christman would lead to Cloudland taking a 6-1 scoring advantage in the second quarter. Heading into the half, Cloudland held a 19-1 lead.
For Cloudland, Hannah Morgan and Katie Baldwin each had a 3-pointer in the third quarter while Benfield posted three points of her own as the Lady Highlanders outscored Little Milligan 9-3 in the frame.
The fourth quarter saw Little Milligan’s Melissa McClain post seven of her game-high nine. The Lady Buffaloes had nine points to Cloudland six in the fourth.
For Little Milligan, Angel Compion had four.
Cloudland was led by two seven-point games from Benfield and Christman. Baldwin finished with six while Morgan tallied five points. Birchfield, McKinney, and Turbyfill had two each while Bella Clawson had three.
Little Milligan took on Hunter in a consolation game.
