‘Dogs sink teeth into Warriors, 68-31

Happy Valley traveled to Hampton over the weekend looking to put a collar around a Bulldog team that has been playing solid basketball as of late.
However, the homestanding ‘Dogs dug their teeth into the Warriors hide early and never let up in taking a 68-31 victory.
Hampton blasted out of the gates in the first quarter by outscoring their visitors 27-12 to gain a handy lead at the first stop.
Jordan Bentley was filling up the Hampton nets blazing the cotton for 12 points in the opening eight minutes of play. Mitchell Tolley was also finding early success from the outside gunning in two treys along with a field goal for 8 points in the stanza.
Caleb Oaks added 5 points for the ‘Dogs in the early run.
Meanwhile, Happy Valley was going inside to their senior post Bryce Carter who sank 6 points in the period with James Harmon dropping in 4 points for the Warriors.
The action cooled down in the second quarter as neither team could manage to get on track offensively as Hampton extended their lead to 37-15 at the break with a 10-3 period.
Hampton’s Jonah Jones helped build the lead by scoring 5 of the 10 ‘Dog points in the frame while Carter had all three of Happy Valley’s points.
After the break, Hampton found its stride once again as the ‘Dogs fired in 22 points in the third period while holding Happy Valley to 8 points to effectively put the game out of reach in taking a 59-23 advantage into the final quarter of play.
Bentley picked up where he left off in the first period swishing home 11 points in the quarter with Garrett Vines chipping in with 4 points.
Carter added 4 points more to his scoring total in the third quarter for the Warriors and Timmy Mounts drained a trey as well.
With the game pretty much in control by Hampton, the final eight minutes of play was a nip and tuck 9-8 quarter for the ‘Dogs as Parker Henry and Morgan Lyons took care of the scoring for Hampton with 5 points and 4 points respectively.
Mounts and Will Tittle tickled the cotton for a trey apiece in the quarter for Happy Valley.
Bentley finished the contest with a game-high 25 points to pace the ‘Dogs. Tolley finished with 8 points while Oaks and Jonah Jones closed out with 7 points apiece.
Henry (5), Izaak Hill (4), Lyons (4), Vines (4), Connor Jones (2), and Rocky Croy (2) closed out the scoring ledger for Hampton.
Carter led the Warriors with 15 points in the contest with Mounts totaling 6 points and Harmon 4 points.
Tittle (3), Blake Young (2), and Dakota Cochran (1) finished out the night for Happy Valley.
