Flames poured out of the windows of a Traveller’s Inn suite Wednesday morning, leaving nothing inside the apartment unscathed, including the bed sheets and drapes.
Fire Chief Barry Carrier said the Elizabethton Fire Department responded to a call at around 2:58 a.m. Wednesday from the staff on duty.
“The room was heavily damaged,” Carrier said. “When the fire department arrived, flames were coming out of the windows and the door.”
The department’s initial assessment said it was an electrical fire.
Carrier said EMS checked out the occupant, a construction worker who was spending the night there, for monoxide poisoning, but he said the occupant refused transport at the time.
Carrier said an investigator will be arriving at the Traveller’s Inn sometime tomorrow to do a more thorough investigation into the cause of the fire.
Carrier reported no other injuries.
