Lady ’Dogs top Chuckey-Doak Hampton falls to Black Knights

A big 23-point game by Lady Bulldogs Stephanie Campbell allowed Hampton to roll past Chuckey-Doak, 57-38, Thursday night.

Campbell racked up 14 first-quarter points as the Lady Bulldogs jumped out to an 18-7 lead after one. LeAnne Guinn and Hannah Collins chipped in with three and one points, respectively.

The Lady ‘Dogs’ scoring output slowed down significantly in the second period as they only manage five points while the Lady Black Knights posted eight in the quarter.  Hampton’s Haley Carden and Guinn had a bucket each in the period while teammate Hazen Brumitt posted a foul shot. Heading into the half, the Lady Bulldogs led 23-15.

Outscoring Hampton 17-6 in the third, the Lady Black Knights fought to within three points of Hampton, 32-29.

Hampton, however, put the pedal to the metal in the fourth quarter as the Lady Bulldogs posted 26 points in the quarter while holding C-D to just 6.

Hampton’s Trinity Camillo came alive in the quarter as she posted ten points, knocking down two 3-pointers, a bucket and a pair of foul shots. Collins assisted the Lady Bulldogs fourth-quarter rally as she knocked down two buckets and went 4-of-4 from the foul line. Campbell also had six points in the quarter while Brumitt connected for two.

Camillo finished the game with ten points while Collins had nine.

Chuckey-Doak 53, Hampton 46

A slow second half by Hampton gave the Black Knights a 53-46 win Thursday.

Heading into the half, the teams were tied at 29-29. The Bulldogs only managed 17 points in the second half overall while Chuckey-Doak scored just enough, 24-points, in the third and fourth quarters to drop the Bulldogs.

Hampton’s Matt Hughes led the Bulldogs with 11 points as he hit three 3-pointers and a pair of foul shots. Both Jonah Jones and Jordan Bently followed up with ten points each.

Alex Maupin led Chuckey-Doak with 14 points.
