Carter County Schools: A look at county middle, elementary school TDOE report card scores
Published 8:58 am Monday, December 10, 2018
This week the Tennessee Department of Education released its yearly report card which reflects how state schools are performing in different categories in 2018.
Those categories include
Academic Achievement — “The academic achievement indicator measures the percentage of students performing on grade level on state assessments as well as the improvement in this percentage from one year to the next. A student is considered on grade level if he or she scores on track or mastered on state exams, known as TNReady or TCAP. The success of all students and the success of students in specific student groups count toward this indicator. Indicator scores range from 0-4, with 4 being the highest.”
Student Growth — “The student academic growth indicator measures individual student growth using the value-added model known as the Tennessee Value-Added Assessment System (TVAAS). All schools and districts receive an overall student growth level equal to their TVAAS composite level, which ranges from Level 1 to Level 5 with Level 5 being the highest performing and Level 1 being the lowest performing. “
Chronically Out of School — “The chronically out of school indicator measures school, district, and state chronic absenteeism. A student is considered chronically out of school if he or she misses 10 percent or more of school days for any reason. A high score means a low chronic-absentee rate.”
