Hunter Tigers win two over Little Milligan

When you take a week off and only have one practice during the holidays, you can get a little rusty, and that’s what happened to the Hunter Tigers Monday night.

The Buffaloes from Little Milligan came to Stoney Creek and brought their mayor J.R. Campbell and were geared for the upset of the year.

Little Milligan jumped out quick taking an 11-5 first-quarter lead as Conner Pierce hit a three, Caleb Pierce would hit two baskets, and Tuff Robinson added two in the first period of play. As soon as the buzzard blew Coach Jeff Peters immediately started doing his imitation of Bobby Knight trying to get the Tigers fired up on a cold night to halt the upset.

The speech worked as Hunter went on a 19-0 run behind the shooting of Joe-z Blamo who scored eight of his game-high 28 points in the second, Landon Ramsey scored six points. Jonathan Campbell scored four and Ryan Peters tossed in a free throw to take a 24-11 lead before Milligan scored the last bucket of the first half.

Caleb Price would score eight in the third and try to rally the Buffs as they would outscore Hunter 14-10 but the speed and quickest of the Tigers proved to be too much in the end for Milligan. Blamo added ten points in the final quarter for the 56-35 win.  Along with Blamo’s 28, Ramsey scored 11, Campbell 6, Peters 5, Marcus Shomaker 4 and Tyler Dugger scored two.  For Little Milligan, Caleb Pierce scored 16, Austin West scored 10, Conner Pierce had 4, Alex Pierce 2, Robinson 2 and Issac Miller scored 1.  Hunter is 6-0 on the season and will play at University School on Thursday.

In the girls’ action, the Lady Tigers were hitting on all cylinders scoring 54 points behind the shooting of Lyndie Ramsey who scored 23 points, 19 coming in the first half.  The Tigers jumped out to a 21-4 first quarter lead and outscored the Buff 13-2 in the second quarter.  The second half Coach Pearson played mostly his second and third string players who outscored Milligan 20-7 for a 54-13 win.  Alone with Ramsey ‘s 23, Kayleigh Reunion scored 8.  Two girls did all the scoring for Milligan, McClain scored 7 and Compton followed with 6.
