Former Elizabethton kicker Logan Birchfield has plenty of goal for his time at Austin Peay where he lines up as a kicker for the Governors.
And here recently, the red-shirt junior was able to mark off two of his goals.
Birchfield was selected as the Ohio Valley Conference Specialist of the Week following the Governor’s close, 17-13, loss to Eastern Kentucky on Nov. 3.
In that game, Birchfield connected on two 40-plus field goals (45 and 43 yards). The first field goal gave Birchfield his 100th career point, and he is at 106 career points.
“I had set both goals at the beginning of fall camp and to accomplish them both in the same game was a great feeling,” said Birchfield. “I just want to leave my mark and Elizabethton’s mark on the Austin Peay football program.
“I could not have done it without my two holders, Nic Screnock and JaVaughn Craig, and also my long snapper Jarrett Giacchino,” added Birchfield.
In kickoffs, Birchfield rocked four kickoffs for 167 yards, averaging 41 yards per kick during the Nov. 3 contest. During the Governors’ game against Eastern Illinois this past Saturday, Birchfield blasted four kickoffs for 193 yards.
Over his career, Birchfield has knocked through 13 field goals with his longest being 45 yards. Birchfield is currently maintaining a 61.90 field-goal percentage. Birchfield has 4,044 career kickoff yards. He is at 722 this season after kicking for 3,211 yards in 2017.
Austin Peay will wrap up the regular season this Saturday, Nov. 17 in Clarksville as the Governors take on Murray State in the Heritage Bank Battle of the Border.
