Bob G. Carter

Bob G. Carter, 88, passed away Monday, October 29, 2018, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. He was born September 21, 1930 in St. Charles, Va., a son of the late Elbert and Eunice Edmonds Carter.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Charlotte Cates Carter, and a brother, Samuel Carter.
Mr. Carter graduated from Elizabethton High School in 1947 and served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of West Side Christian Church in Elizabethton. He was an advertising executive for many years with the Elizabethton Star and Johnson City Press, later becoming the publisher of the Avery Journal Newspaper in Newland, N.C. He was a former Chief of the Hampton, Tennessee Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by daughters, Sandra Fair and Jane Thompson; sons, John and Dennis Carter; a sister, Fay Brown; six grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
A graveside service and interment will be held at Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 1, with Dr. Greg Key officiating. Active pallbearers will be his grandsons, Graham and Gavin Fair, Chase Thompson, Bobby and Jack Carter and Nicholas Leach. Those who plan to attend should arrive at the cemetery by 10:50 a.m. Thursday. After the service, friends and family may visit with the family at the home of John and Wendi Carter, Johnson City.
