Sunbright was able to score in the first quarter.
But the Unaka Rangers took over from there.
Unaka picked up a 26-8 win at Sunbright for their third win of the season.
Trailing 8-0 coming out of the first quarter, Unaka’s John Ramsey connected with Devon Jarrett on a 48-yard passing touchdown with 11 minutes to go in the second quarter. Ramsey struck again on an 8-yard rushing TD to give Unaka 12-8 lead still in the second quarter.
With less than a minute left in the half, Ramsey found Jarrett again. This time on a 25-yard touchdown pass to move the Rangers ahead 18-8 heading into the half.
In the third, Unaka’s Daniel Sheal picked off his sixth interception of the year to stop a Sunbright drive.
An interception by Devon Jarrett would set up an 11-yard TD run from Ramsey. Unaka’s Logan Benway ran in the 2-point conversion to give his team a 26-8 lead.
While Unaka was getting things done at Sunbright, the Cloudland Highlanders had no problem at Copper Basin.
The Highlanders handed Copper Basin a 56-14 loss.
The game was highlighted by three receiving touchdown passes from Malachi Benfield to Triston Lacy. Lacy also recorded a rushing TD. Jordan Coffey finished the night with two rushing touchdowns. Defensive end K.J. Arnold scooped up two fumbles and ran them in for touchdowns.
The Highlanders will host Midway next Friday to open up the Class A playoffs.
