Tuesday was for the birds at the Elizabethton Recreation Center.

Denise Wynn and Taylor Simounet from Doe River Gorge stopped by the facility for the World Animal Day Celebration sponsored by Carter County Drug Prevention Coalition, Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library, Parks and Recreation, and UT – Extension.

Over the course of the event, community members were invited to attend an exotic animal show with animals from the Gorge’s sanctuary. While learning about the animals with some fun presentations, attendees were also able to learn the dangers of smoking around pets. Attendees were also greeted with free snacks, games and crafts.

The purpose of World Animal Day is to promote animal welfare for all animals across the globe.
