Mrs. Catherine “Bonnie” Marie Langley White of Butler, Tenn., passed away on the morning of September 11, 2018, following an 8-month battle with stage 4 cancer. She was in her home surrounded by her husband, brother, sister-in-law and daughter. Mrs. White was 69 years old.
Mrs. White was born May 16, 1949 in Baltimore City, Md., to parents, William Langley and Beatrice George. She was their second child, and only daughter. She graduated Bell Air High School in 1970, and shortly thereafter enlisted in the United States Army where she achieved the rank of Private First Class. She was stationed on Fort Lewis in Washington State, where she met her husband, Robert. Mr. and Mrs. White were married in a civil ceremony on January 19, 1971, and they welcomed their first child, Angela Marie, later that year. Their second child, Robert David, was born in 1976. The family lived primarily in Memphis, Tenn., until the early ’90s when they chose to move to North Georgia. They spent a decade living in Georgia before moving to St. Cloud, Fla. While in Florida, Mrs. White ran a successful business, B and B Gifts. In 2007, Mrs. White was diagnosed with breast cancer, which after enduring nearly six months chemotherapy and radiation treatments she was declared in remission. In 2012, she was declared cancer free.
Mrs. White was a homemaker for most of her life, caring for her children and later her grandchildren. She was a lover of Elvis, fiercely devoted to her family, enjoyed large glasses of sweet tea, and taking occasional gambling trips with her husband. Mrs. White will be remembered by many as “Aunt Bonnie” because she always had time to lend a hand, pick up the phone, or send a thoughtful note in the mail to anyone she considered family. She knew everyone from the store clerks at her local grocery store, her pharmacists and the men her husband supervised at work.
Mrs. White was preceded in death by her mother and father, and her uncle, Burke Langley.
She is survived by her husband, Robert White, her daughter, Angela, her son, Rob, her stepmother, Carrie, her three siblings, Bill, Scott and David, four grandchildren, Kristen, Brandi, Taylor and Bailey, one great-grandchild, Beau, and many other members of her extended family.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 15, at 3 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Chapel with visitation from 2 to 3 p.m., prior to the service. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. Condolences may be sent to the family at our website, www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
