Elizabethton will be a hotbed of action this weekend.

Following up the sixth annual Race for Wandell, organizers with the Elizabethton/Carter County Community Foundation will present the BBQ, Blues & Brews Festival on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 5 to 10 p.m. at Covered Bridge Park.

For the second consecutive year, the event will serve as a fundraiser for the continued restoration of the Bonnie Kate Theater. Much like last year, Amos Brown, ECCCF member and event organizer, said the event will feature BBQ samplings, craft beer and live music.

Tickets are still on sale prior to the event’s date. Tickets are $20 for the BBQ and Blues portion while it is $30 for the entire festival.

Event organizers are expecting a sellout compared to last year’s inaugural event, which featured over 400 patrons.

A variety of restaurants will be in attendance for the event, according to event organizers.

Last year’s contest winner, Southern Craft BBQ, will be back to defend its crowd against a larger pool for eateries. Other restaurants include Black Dog BBQ, J’s Corner, Joe Bill’s Kitchen, The Crafty Baker, Moe’s Original BBQ in Johnson City and Bob’s Dairyland.

To go along with the samplings, the event will also feature an extensive selection of craft beer for tasting.

An evident showing of momentum for the event is the different performers that will be featured at the park. My New Favorites will return for another go at the festival while “Double Standards” a new band based out of Nashville, will make their debut in the region.

Sherry England, Double Standards singer, performs in the band with her husband and talked about the joy of coming to Tennessee in 2016 after performing on the Las Vegas Strip.

“I am so excited about being part of the music lineup for this year,” England told the Elizabethton Star.

Having the event has been a joy for the ECCCF, Brown recently told the Elizabethton Star, adding the Bonnie Kate is a benefit to the region. This month, the facility was able to go through the process of having a new roof put on. Other events and productions are also around the bend to help with the development of the facility, which includes improvements to lighting and the sprinkler system. Beside the theater is the Red Chili restaurant.

Tickets are still available prior to the day of the event. Individuals can visit www.bbqblewsandbrews.org for more information. For further information, be sure to the check out the BBQ, Blues and Brews Festival online.
