Elizabethton police are searching for a suspect who fled the scene after a car crashed into a local gas station on Wednesday morning.
According to Elizabethton Police Department Capt. Shane Darling, officers of the EPD were dispatched to Roadrunner Market (BP), located at 416 Highway 91, around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday after a 911 caller reported a vehicle had crashed through the glass at the front of the store and then fled the scene.
“Witnesses were able to give a suspect description and a description of the vehicle,” Darling said. “We have a suspect identified.”
Darling said at this time police are not releasing the name of the suspect due to the investigation being ongoing.
According to police reports, officers spoke with several individuals at the scene. A maintenance employee with the store told police he was in the parking lot working when he heard a loud crash and when he looked up he saw a white car backing out of the store. The employee told officers the vehicle left the parking lot and headed northbound on Highway 91.
The store manager told officers she was working inside the store when she heard the crash and came to see what was going on. The woman told officers the vehicle had run through the dual pane glass window of the building and then drove off.
According to police, an employee of the store was working in the area where the suspect vehicle crashed through the glass but the employee was not injured.
Darling said the investigation is ongoing and officers are attempting to locate the suspect. He said more information will be released as it becomes available.
