Promoting positivity and the ability to chase dreams continues to ring true for Amy Simmons.

The past 27 years of being the director for Dancer’s Dreams Performing Arts Academy has led Simmons in the route of wanting to be a role model for others. That opportunity received some extra momentum at the end of July with Simmons taking home tops honors in the 2018 Amerifest National Pageant held in Sevierville.

During the three-day event, Simmons was able to haul in the national title of Amerifest Miss U.S. Elegant Woman. Simmons was awarded the Amerifest National Personality Award.

“I love being graced with being able to teach many dance styles to all ages through Dancer’s Dream Performing Arts Academy,” Simmons said. “My dream has come true and the results of the Amerifest pageant have been a tremendous blessing.”

Simmons went through a gauntlet of competitions, ranging from an opening number, interview session, evening gown, photogenic event and on-stage question.

“My favorite thing about competing in this pageant was being able to challenge myself for each event,” Simmons said. “It’s not competing against another contestant, but competing against yourself. I met so many beautiful, intelligent and interesting ladies and made so many new friends and made so many wonderful memories.”

Simmons added the national pageant focuses on a variety of aspects, including community service.

Locally, Simmons offers classes for students at locations across the Tri-Cities, including Elizabethton. The director typically works alongside city officials to offer fun activities for children during events, including the most recent Independence Day Celebration at Covered Bridge Park.

“I am really looking forward to making appearances throughout our areas,” Simmons said. “I can’t wait to direct our annual Miss Harvest Princess and the Elizabethton Miss Firecracker Pageant.” July’s competition also featured some fun time on the side with friends and loved ones, Simmons added. Simmons, a former Miss American Clogger, indicated one of the more memorable moments was being able to showcase her clogging skills during the family night entertainment portion of the competition with pageant assistant Lora Owens.

Now back in the area, Simmons said she’s excited for what’s ahead in the coming months and working alongside students that are looking to dabble in different performance styles.
